JOHN GAITAN   CERAMISIST   (80 Detlor Road, L’Amable)

John Gaitan is an emerging ceramic artist whose practice is shaped by over a decade of creating spaces, cultivating a sensitivity to atmosphere, material, and spatial rhythm. His work approaches clay as a means to form the unexpected, cultivating atmosphere and a careful balance of form. Informed by his Panamanian heritage, his work draws from the movement of foliage and water, where forms suggest a quiet vitality and an inherited sensitivity to the natural world. He is interested in moments where organic structures become unfamiliar, swelling, shifting, and taking on an almost sentient presence. Through this lens, the grotesque emerges as generative and alive, where nature remains in a state of continual transformation.

To help bring the ordinary into view so that it can be seen with new eyes, I can only hope to raise awareness of how much we are all dependent on our natural world.
